Hello, I'm Vasudha, and I live in Hapur, not far from the charming Brajghat, a place I've been visiting since my childhood, about 35 km from my hometown. In my third year of college, I was given a project to research any traditional handicraft. I chose to delve into the world of cane and bamboo furniture, focusing on the artisans of Brajghat who skillfully crafted muddhas from bamboo.

During my research, I discovered a significant challenge these artisans faced: they struggled to receive fair prices for their products. Their lack of marketing knowledge, intense competition within the craft, and the rise of cheaper materials like plastic posed hurdles. Additionally, they had limited exposure to foreign markets. Checking prices on Amazon, I found they were more than double what the artisans were earning, and frequent bargaining with customers led to reduced profits.

As a design student, I envisioned creating an app to connect these artisans directly with customers worldwide, eliminating middlemen. This would be mutually beneficial, allowing artisans to earn more while offering customers unique, handcrafted items. We named this initiative "Ganga Handicrafts," symbolizing the essence of the region where Brajghat is located, known as Ganga Ji.

Challenges I anticipate facing in the future include maintaining consistent quality, motivating artisans to shift from local selling to a digital platform, encouraging them to embrace extraordinary designs, and helping them understand the benefits of selling through the app.

Our mission goes beyond commerce; we aim to revive the fading art of making bamboo muddhas by training new artisans. By utilizing bio-waste from farming, such as sarkanda and munj, we not only create eco-friendly furniture but also contribute to farmers' economic well-being. We advocate for an eco-friendly environment in every household and strive to bridge the gap between traditional craftsmanship and modern sustainability.

In conclusion, Ganga Handicrafts is not just a marketplace; it's a movement to rediscover lost art, transform waste into value, and become advocates for our Earth. Our commitment lies in fostering a balance between preserving age-old traditions and embracing a sustainable future.
